5) BCSS Update – Jo-Anne
- Randy
- advise both girls and boys about inappropriateness of changing at the bench; should be brought to AD’s and principal’s attention
- Junior provincial championships are not BCSS sanctioned and therefore must not use BCSS on the banner (use the term “Invitational”); also note that unsanctioned provincial invitational tournaments are not covered by BCSS insurance
- Needs clarification by BCSS
- Jo-Anne
- If a team is coming from Alberta to participate in a tournament, they must have proper sanctioning papers completed & vice versa
- Check with SD about out of country protocols when teams are traveling. Make ADs from each zone aware of this; see page 133-140 of BCSS handbook
- BCSS risk management – D2.3, pg. 91 “Procedures”
- Coaches must make parents aware of the risk factors; need a signature to show the parent
6) Commissioner updates
- Jo-Anne to check where AA girls basketball Valleys are; discrepancy between Rules & Regs indications and pg 91 summary Playoff Calendar
7) Other Business
- Pennants are here! Thanks Jo-Anne
- For next year, Past President to contact Blair’s Sports to order the pennants immediately following the AGM and confirm order at the APC
- Possible host site for BCSS AGM in Kelowna; date – May 12ish
- All the host need do is supply the building (must be a theatre) and organize a caterer. May need a meeting room the Friday night and a theatre for Saturday
- John to check with Bill Bidlake regarding hosting 200+ people
- Status of Past President
- Confusion over who is/should be past president. Mike Kormany should be, but didn’t fulfill his duties. Tony has offered to step up. (Thanks Tony) Motion to dissolve the position for this year and give money for hosting the AGM – passed / done deal
- AGM grant – the grant will increase to $3000
- Ideas for coaches’ recognition
- OVSAA zone meetings should recognize a coach for the respective season. Could be a draw with all coaches names or zones could come up with their own plan. Provide a certificate for dinner or some other appropriate idea
- The BCSS Recognition Draw (for each zone declaration meeting)
- If you have a coach in your zone who should be recognized by BCSS, let Sue Keenan know asap
- Okanagan playoffs include a consolation playoff for 3rd and 4th – this needs to be brought forward as a motion at the AGM; Jo-Anne to take care of this
- Rules & Regs – any changes we’d like to make?
- No
- Discipline regarding KSS Sr. Girls Volleyball coach
- Jo-Anne is the commissioner and is the first level to make a ruling. OVSAA president does not get involved until it’s dealt with at the commission level. If the coach chooses to appeal, the OVSAA president needs to be involved.
Next meeting: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 @ 5:30 – Alexander’s Pub (Vernon) in conference room (upstairs)
