JUNIOR BOYS BASKETBALL
Section 1 - Eligibility
Players must be under 17 on December 31 of current school year and in no more than the third year of eligibility. (Valley Tournament should be held two weeks before the Provincial Invitational in order for teams to meet registration requirements for the Provincial Invitational)
Section 2 - Playoffs
Each zone shall declare winners in time to complete in Valley Finals.
- Junior Boys shall have an eight-team tournament to be held over two days.
- That the given pairings for the Valley Championships may be set up (with consultation of the commissioner) by the host school so as to make as equitable a draw as possible. No two schools from the same zone may be on the same side of the draw. The rotations will remain the same as in the constitution.

e) Any team involved in Zone play or Valley playoffs may not participate in
the playdowns toward any other tournament before the completion of the Valley Championships.
f) The Valley Champion receives Okanagan #1 seed and the Valley
Champion pennant; the Finalist pennant goes to the loser of the final
game.
g) Okanagan #2 seed is determined as follows if the lower place team
chooses to challenge:
i) On Monday at #3, the 4th place team may challenge 3rd if they
have not already played at the valley championship and 3rd has not
played 2nd at the Valley
Championships.
ii) On Tuesday at #2, the winner of (i) can challenge 2nd if they have
not already played at the valley championship.

SENIOR A BOYS BASKETBALL
Section 1 - School Size
Any school with up to 75 boys in Grades 11 and 12 is an “A” school. There is 10% flexibility with this number, please contact your commissioner for further information.
Section 2 - Eligibility
a) Under 19 as of January 1st of the current school year.
b) “A” boys teams must be members of the C.C.H.S.B.B.A. if they are to advance to
the valley playoffs.
c) “A” schools are only eligible to play in the Okanagan “A” valley finals.

Section 3 - Playoffs
a) i) Tournament Format: as per boys “AA” format unless lack of team
registrations warrants otherwise. At which point “A” boy’s commissioner
will set up alternate format.
ii) A zone having 2 or fewer teams shall receive one berth with the extra
berth going to one of the larger zones. #2 in the smaller zone shall have
the right to challenge #3 from the larger zone for the berth.
iii) If a zone has only 1 school registered in the league, their berth will go to
the zone with whom they join for league play.
iv) Singleton teams must declare at the start of the season which zone they
plan to join for playoffs.
v) If the Okanagan gets 3 or more berths to the Provincials , then challenge games between zones will take place. The North and the West zones will have their third place teams play each other. The winner will then challenge the 2nd place team from the losing teams zone. The same scenario will take place between the South and Central zones.
vi) These games are to take place no later than the Monday and Tuesdayof the week of the valleys. North and Central odd years will host the 3rd place games. West and South will host on the even years. 2nd place team will be home team.

It is the responsibility of the 1st place team in the host zone to put on this tournament two (2) weeks before the Provincial Championships take place.
SENIOR AA BOYS BASKETBALL
Section 1 - School Size
Any school with 81 - 225 boys in Grades 11 and 12 is an “AA” school. Any school with more than 225 boys in Grades 11 and 12 must make an application to the “AAA” Basketball Committee, prior to May 1.
Section 2 - Eligibility
a) Under 19 as of January 1st of the current school year and in no more than the
fifth year of eligibility.
b) A player may not have played in a league game for a higher division team, i.e. –
“AAA”
c) “AA” boy’s teams must be members of the B.C.H.S.B.B.A. if they are to advance
to the valley playoffs.
d) “AA” schools are only eligible to play in the Okanagan “AA” valleys finals.
e) A $25.00 late registration fee will be levied if a team is not registered with the
OVSAA by the registration date set down by the B.C.H.S.B.B.A.

b) AA Boys Basketball is played in three zones: South-Central, North, and West.
Berths to the Valley Championship shall be based on the number of teams
registered and competing in each zone. Zones may agree to combine league play
and/or playoffs and thereby pool their berths. A strength berth playoff game may
be set up by the commissioner for the Tuesday preceding the Valley
Championship if the number of teams registered in each league make that a fair
proposition. The commissioner will consult with the league commissioners to
determine the participants in that game. The playoff game will be played at the
gym of the school hosting the Valley Championship unless otherwise agreed.
The Valley Championship draw will be made up by the commissioner using the
following:

3. Teams from the same zone not meeting in the first round.

SENIOR AAA BOYS BASKETBALL
A. Zones - There shall be one Valley zone.
B. Eligibility
a) “See Article X Section 5 of the O.V.S.A.A. Constitution.
b) Eligibility Appeals
A player, whose eligibility is being appealed, shall not play in restricted
competition until deemed eligible by B.C.S.S. Failure to comply with this
rule shall result in the forfeiture of the games to the opposing teams by a score
of 1-0.
C. Schedules
i) “The schedule will be decided at the commission meeting held each April
prior to the season.”
Teams shall submit a black and white copy of their team photo to the
tournament coordinator by January 15th along with a complete team
roster.
iii) Home teams shall fax results sheets to the Commissioner the morning
after the game.
iv) Player rosters must be in numerical order to help with compiling data.
D. Ties in final league standings
In case of a tie (2 teams) or ties (more than 2 teams) the following procedure shall
be used to determine the final standings for playoff purposes.
i) If 2 teams are still tied; games won and lost between the 2 teams during
the league schedule shall be used to decide playoff positions
ii) If 2 teams are still tied after the application of rule (a) then points for
minus points against between the two teams during the league schedule
shall be used to decide playoff positions.

iii) If 3 or more teams are tied; games won and lost between the tied teams during the league schedule shall be used to decide playoff positions.
iv) If 3 or more teams are still tied after the application of rule (c) then, points
for minus points against between the tied teams, during the league
schedule shall be used to decide playoff positions.
If a tie or ties still exist after (a) through (d) have been applied then a
playoff would be used to decide playoff positions. Format of playoff to be
decided by the Commissioner.
E. Playoffs
a) All teams must be members of the B.C.H.S.B.B.A.
b) The Valley tournament shall be a 6-team tournament with 1st and 2nd
getting an opening round bye.
c) The Tournament site shall be determined at the Spring General Meeting.

A GIRLS BASKETBALL
Section 1 - School Size
Any school with 75 or fewer girls in grades 11 and 12 is an “A” school; any “A” school that wishes to play in a higher division than their numbers dictate must declare their intentions to their Zone Rep before December 1st.
Section 2 - Eligibility
a) Under 19 as of January 1st of the current school year and in no more than the 5th
year of eligibility (as per BCSS)
b) A player may not have played in a league game for a higher division team - eg.
AA or AAA.
c) “A” girls teams must be members of the B.C.H.S.G.B.A. if they are to advance
girls to the Valley playoffs.
d) Exceptions to eligibility regulations may be made in the case of a single team
zone. (”A” Commissioner and OVSAA President)
Section 3 - Playoffs
a) As soon as the number of schools registered is available from B.C.H.S.C.B.A., the
Commissioner will determine the make-up of the Zone Playoffs and the number
of berths to the Okanagan Championships from the Zones. The top two teams
from each zone (North, West, South, Central) will advance to the Okanagan
Championships.
b) Zones with two or fewer teams only get one guaranteed berth and a challenge
game for the second berth will be will be held in the gym of the challenged team.
Given travel considerations, the challenge matches would be between North and
West and South and Central.

AA GIRLS BASKETBALL
Section 1- School size.

Section 2- Eligibility
b) As per BCSS and OVSAA Rules and Regulations.
c) A $25.00 late registration fee will be levied if a team is not registered with the OVSAA by the registration date set down by BCSS.
d) “AA” girls teams must be members of the BCHSGBA if they are to advance to the Valley play-offs. Individual team members must be included on the BCHSGBA registration form to be elligible to play on their team in the Valley play-offs.
e) “A” player may not have played in a league game for a higher division.
f) “AA” schools or “A” schools delaring “AA” by December 1st are only eligible to play in Okanagan “AA” valley finals.

Note: If a host school chooses not to host in rotation, the tournament will be hosted by the next school in rotation. New schools will be added into the rotation following the last team in the rotation.
d) Format - Challenge Game
The Valley tournament shall be a six-team format. Games 1 and 2 will be
hosted by the teams finishing third and fourth on Tuesday 7:00pm prior to the
Valley tournament. The hosts of these games will bear the costs of the referees and the visiting teams will bear the costs of travel to the host schools. The host teams should therefore contact their respected referee allocator for the times and sites of these games. The highest finishing team shall be home throughout the playoffs.
The host team for Valley Championship shall try to provide medals for the
championship team and be responsible for all-star selections and awards.

d) Challenge possibililties
If the Okanagan zone gets 1.5 berths then the loser of game 6 will be playing in the BC challenge game.
If the Okanagan zone gets 2 berths then the winner of game 5 may challenge the loser of game 6 for the second berth provided they have not played each other in yhe tournament. The game will be played at the loser of the finals gym at 7:00pm the following Tuesday. Referees shall come from the zones not playing in the challenge game.
