SENIOR BADMINTON

Section 1

The Okanagan league will consist of a boy’s team and a girl’s team that will play singles and doubles. For Valley and BC Finals, a team may consist of a minimum of 5 girls and 5 boys and a maximum of 10 girls and 10 boys.

Section 2

Each zone commissioner will establish a league schedule (where necessary) in consultation with the zone coaches. The top two teams from each zone will qualify for the Valley Championships. The top team from the Valley will qualify for the BC Championships.

Section 3

BC Finals to be held on the 11th weekend of the new calendar year.

Okanagan Valley Championship Tournament format:
DATE: to be held on a weekday at least two weeks prior to the BC Finals and before the first spring break unless that date conflicts with travel for the BC Winter Games. (Third weekend before the BC Finals.)

  1. Valley Championships should be scheduled in a different zone each year.
  2. Top two teams from each zone advance to the Valley Championships. Seeding competition will be round robin following traditional tie format for two pools. Semifinal will be Y1 vs Z2 and Z1 vs Y2. The semifinal winners will play for 1st place. The losers will play for 3rd place.
  3. TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

The elimination matches will be played in the following order, with the school named first in the draw being the school on the left.
1. Girls Doubles A vs. B 7. Girls Doubles B vs. B
2. Girls Doubles B vs. A 8. Girls Doubles A vs. A
3. Boys Doubles A vs. B 9. Boys Doubles B vs. B
4. Boys Doubles B vs. A 10. Boys Doubles A vs. A
5. Boys Singles 11. Mixed Doubles
6. Girls Singles

A TIE consists of 11 matches.
The school winning at least 6 of the matches wins the TIE.
Each match is a set of 2 of 3 games to 21 points, except Girl’s singles which is played to 11 points. Winner of each game must win by 2 points or the first to 30.

Registration fee to BC SCHOOL SPORTS to qualify for BC Finals.
A team picture will be required for the Provincial program.

Rotation for Valley Playoffs:
2010 - West 2012 - Central
2011 - North 2009 - South

Berthing to Okanagans Valley Championships:

1. If a zone has 3 teams or more Then they will automatically get 2 berths in the valley Championship.

2. If a zone has only 2 teams then the 1st place team gets an automatic berth in the Valley Championships. The second team will be required to host a play-off between themselves and the 3rd place teams of the other zones to dtermine who wins the berths. if the other 3rd place teams are not prepared to travel to play the play-off then the 2nd team in the zone will get a berthto the Valley Championship.

3. If a zone only has 1 team then that team gets an automatic berth to the valley Championships.The second berth will be decided upon by a play-off between the 3rd place team from the other pools. If there is no time in the schedule to play this match the match will be awarded by the league commissioner.JUNIOR BADMINTON

Section 1

A junior team may consist of a minimum of 5 boys and 5 girls and a maximum of 10 boys and 10 girls playing one team TIE.

Section 2

Each zone commissioner will establish a league schedule (where necessary) in consultation with the zone coaches. Top two teams will qualify for the Valley Championships unless there are only two teams in the zone. In that case, the zone will have one berth. Central and North may enter one team in Valley Championship pool as follows:

Valley Playoffs Tournament format:
